Climate change and health research methods course

In this course, students will gain an understanding of methods used in the field of climate change and health and will have practice applying their analytical skills in this interdisciplinary research field. The course is for PhD students and post-docs in public health, environmental sciences and related fields. Pre-course “climate change and health” knowledge is essential, and a basic understanding of statistical and epidemiological methods is also beneficial. All course applicants will be advised to study some pre-course texts. 

The content for this course includes scientific methods relating to: Health impacts of climate change, weather variability and extreme weather events; Health and adaptation to climate change; Health and emissions reduction (climate change mitigation co-benefits). Course participants will learn technical concepts concerning: Statistical, epidemiological and other research methods to investigate climate-health associations; Managing different temporal and spatial scales (e.g. meteorology, physical geography and health); Methods for climate change adaptation, such as early warnings systems and campaigns; Qualitative research techniques; Climate change policy and research dissemination.
