This paper examines data from a survey specifically designed and carried out (in 1999 and 2000) in communities of high out-migration to an agricultural colonist frontier in Central America, to address the question of how ecological processes may have contributed to the migration of households to the northern agricultural frontier of Peten from different areas of rural Guatemala.
